There are no accessibly reliable statistics of the actual number of lives lost. It is for the record that many seafarers have perished in the oceans and seas of the World as a result of vessels foundering in all manner of adverse weather conditions.
Many casualties also occur in consequence of carrying out duties on board and in the discharging and loading of cargoes.
Seafaring in all its forms is a most hazardous occupation. Perhaps people do not clearly understand the immense dangers faced by the Merchant Navy in the transport by sea of all cargoes necessary to sustain our lives and the economy of the Country.
